How you set up your room will depend greatly on the learners in your class, the type of activity you are introducing, the type of furniture you have at your disposal, and the space with which you have to work. The biggest tip I can provide here is that you should not be afraid to mix things up. At certain times you could have students in a semi-circle/ in small circles to facilitate group discussions. At other times you could have students face to face to promote pair work/ interview scenarios. Sometimes you may go back to the old fashioned “rows”. These can be beneficial during tests when you want to limit interaction between learners. Sometimes, I use all three in a single lesson as my objectives and the tasks change.
