It is important that students have long-term goals (as well as short-term goals) in class. It is a great idea to incorporate some assignments into your lessons that can completed over time. One idea is to include writing assignments that will go through a drafting process. Another idea is to have students work on a project. An example could be researching their favorite actor and writing a biography. They could then present there findings to the class and include such things as pictures and video clips. Students could work on the projects alone, with a partner or even in a group. If you have students working in groups, make sure that each student is aware of their role and how much is expected from them as an individual.
With all long-term projects, hand out a timeline indicating when certain components are due. It is important that the timeline is realistic and that tasks are due in manageable increments. |
