Eliciting and Concept Checking are techniques used by the ESOL teacher during the lesson to involve the learner in the process of discovering and understanding language. These techniques are especially useful when the student is learning using only the target or second language (L2) and not relying on any first language (L1) for instructions or explanations.

For notes on these techniques go to Techniques for Eliciting and Using Concept Checking in Teaching.
